Over the last four weeks Kowhai Room have been learning about graphs. The two older groups have did the class temperatures while the younger groups did food wrappers in Kowhai and Rata Room it was really fun. Our topic is the 1960s we had to chose a person and study about that person.Then Mrs Richardson said to go home and find out about the person that you are learning about. In our draft writing we have to write about Greedy Cat and a book called Our Teacher Miss Pool.Mrs Richardson made a ka pai chart so we can reuse our ka pais and so we dont kill trees and loose oxygen.In maths we are learning about hundreds,tens and ones its fun. Welcome to Kowhai Room 2011. I am pleased to be back this year teaching years 3-5. They are a great bunch of kids. Each week the students will be letting you the parents know about what they are doing, what they have been doing and what might be coming up. They would really like it if you could comment after you have read their posts.Look forward to catching up with many of you over the year.

What happened at the end of year concert.

Last night we had our end of year concert.First we did Jump Jam and we did Witch Doctor,I Like to Move It and Funky Town.We had to change the witch doctor a bit because it was to hard for the other kids.Everybody clapped and cheered in laughter.I bet that Fergus was hot in his elephant costume because it was realy realy thick . And after we all had done our plays we all wated for the senior class to do there play .There was heaps of people and food there was about 4 tables of food and we couldnt wait to eat.But the juice was a bit funny because it kind of had no taste.The food was lovely especially the banana cake.When it was over we were all very tired and we ad to stay for qa little bit longer because we had to pack up the props and put them in Mrs Richardsons truck and Mrs McCulloughs van.When we got school this morning we had to unload all the props out of the van and truck.It was a pretty big job but we all had fun.

End of Year Concert

It’s only three weeks until the end of year concert .We are trying hard to practice for our plays and jump jam with our Christmas carols. Every one is excited about everything. The three classes are doing all different plays. We will be performing on the 8^th of December. In a couple of weeks we will be going to the SHS to practice. When it is time for the plays and entertainment we will try and do our best to entertain you. Say goodbye to the year 8s because this is their last concert and some of them have been here since they were 5 and did very well all these years.

Calf Day

On Tuesday the day before Calf Day we did our indoor exhibits. We did our baking at home and some of our baking was a decorated cupcake, colorful caterpillar and a edible hedgehog and we took all the stuff we needed to make our vegetable kiwi, secret place tray garden and our Green arrangement. But before that we had to have our Class photos taken and some sport photos. After all our exhibits were done we had to go out side while they were getting judged. That night we could go and have a look at was we had come with our things we made. The next day it was calf day and everybody had to get their pets ready. I took a calf and her name was Midget the big big calf that was really friendly. The junior lambs went first and that was fun to watch and then the senior lambs went and tat was really cool. Over all the winner of the lambs was Kelly McCullough with the lamb called Boomerang and Reserve place was Natalie Wadsworth with her Lamb called socks. Then soon it was time for the junior calves and I was getting ready for the senior calves I watched a little bit of the juniors and they were really good at leading. It was time for the senior calves and I was a bit nervous because I went first at leading. Next it was rearing and the judge said come to the middle because I had came 1^st in rearing and I got a cup called the Perry challenge Rosebowl cup. Soon after we went and got some lunch and we could play games at the stalls. After we went down to the goal post and we were getting ready to watch Mr. Austin’s dogs heard some sheep and he told us about two different type of herding sheep and it was really fun the whole day.

My Pet Day

On the day before Pet day it was crazy because we had school photos on the same day. We had to do the baking at home . All of the other stuff we had to do at school like the vegetable kiwi, the green arrangement and the special place garden .For baking we had to do an edible hedgehog, and a muffin caterpillar .We did the Sun Sets and the Abstract shapes for art. Also we put in the pottery tiles that we did with my mum. We made a bit of a mess on the floor so we got out the hoover . It was a bit higgledy piggilty because all the hockey people and the basket ball people had to go out and in of the class room doing their gardens and doing the photos at the same time . It was fun but messy. We all enjoyed ourselves .

On Pet Day there was heaps of lambs ,calves and pets like dogs ,birds ,cats, Guinea pigs, rabbits and lots of other pets . The winner of the pets was Pearl Hammond and also the winner of the calves was Issac and the winner of the lambs was Kelly McCullough.

The thing I liked was that we all just had fun .After that the games began it was so fun. Also there was sausages and all kinds of yummy food .We all won heaps of prizes in the games . Even through some of us didn’t win anything we all had fun . Pet Day was really fun and cool and after the games then we went over to a big track seat up and Mr Austin came and brought three sheep and showed us how to get sheep in a little pen with his to dogs .One was a girl and the other one was a boy and after that we all went home happily Waiting to get home to hang all our ribbons up.

Kevin Archer Taranaki Regional Council

Today we had Kevin Archer come to our school and he had heaps of stories and funny jokes in his mind.He used to work as a teacher but now he works at the Taranaki Regional Council. He goes around teaching heaps of children about the mountain and other things.One of his stories was when he went to a meeting and he saw some people listening to some volcanologists talk and most of them were alright but two of them were so boring people were starting to go to sleep including him but one person was fully asleep and he fell off his chair.
He told us there are nine machines under the mountain called Seismometers.They are like a stethoscopes except they listen to the mountain to see if magma pushing upwards. Once Kevin went to a building called the regional council in New Plymouth and saw that there was movement under the mountain but his friend said that it was a only a truck going past it.
Then he showed us what you need in an emergency kit .
Then he played a quick game with us and then he had to go to the Senior room.

Term 4. We are learning about.....

This is term 4 at Kowhai Room. Our topic this term is about natural disaster and what to do if they happen. We are doing the Taranaki Blowout for part of our topic. This is if an eruption happens and hits our school and we don't know what to do but we do know now because we have been learning about it.
Also this term we have got Pet Day on the 27th of October. By Janika and William.

Taranaki Cross Country Champs

On Wednesday 22nd September we went to the Taranaki Cross Country Champs. Janika, Xavier and Fergus went with Mr Hey and Ashley,Joshua and Liam went with Mr and Mrs Waite so a big thank you to you. When we got there it was really cold and it was raining. We walked around the track once to see where we were going to run when the race was going on. On part of the track there was mud mixed with cow poo and it was 10cm high with stones mixed in. At the start of the race some pressure was on and the man said on your marks bang the man shot his gun to start the race and we were gone. Soon we came up to a wooden fence that we had to climb over and then we got on with the race. We came up to the muddy bit and we went to the side where the mud was not as bad. After a while we were at the oval and that meant we where nearly at the at the finish line and we where sprinting so we can pass people to get to the finish quicker and we were finally there and Ashley came 12th and Janika came 34th. It was really really fun and we both enjoyed the whole day even watching the Pembroke boys in there races.
